Phillies Place Cliff Lee On 60-Day Disabled List

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Monday, the Phillies announced that they were placing Cliff Lee on the 60-Day Disable List with a left forearm strain. Lee suffered the injury in Spring Training and has acknowledged the fact that surgery could end his career.

The same injury sidelined Lee twice during the 2014 season.

The team acknowledged in a release that surgery has been recommended for Lee despite his efforts to pitch through the injury. The team also added that if surgery is chosen, it would more than likely end his 2015 season as rehabbing the injury would run through the end of the season.

The team is placing Lee on the disabled list with hopes that the injury will improve without surgery being needed. The Phillies are immediately shutting Lee down in terms of throwing with hopes that he will be able to pitch at some point this season.

Lee is being sent home from spring training to begin resting.
