Phillies' Phillippe Aumont Opts For Free Agency

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Phillies pitcher Phillippe Aumont was designated for assignment on June 20. The team announced on Wednesday that Aumont has elected to become a free agent.

Aumont could have accepted his assignment and returned to pitching with the Phillies' AAA affiliate in Lehigh Valley.

Aumont was called up to the Phillies to make a start for Cole Hamels who was unable to make a schedule appearance. In that lone start, Aumont pitched just four innings.

He allowed five hits and six earned runs during the outing. He also allowed two home runs while walking seven batters.

Aumont was experiencing much greater success with the IronPigs prior to making that start with the Phillies.

In 14 games (10 starts), Aumont posted a 2.35 ERA in 65 innings pitched.
