Phillies Open Weekend Series Tonight In D.C.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies will open a five game road trip tonight as they play the first of three in Washington D.C. against the Nationals.

The Phillies are coming off a 3-7 homestand that wrapped up with an 8-1 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. In that game, Vince Velasquez had to leave after throwing just two pitches. Today, the right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right biceps strain. Right-hander Luis Garcia has been called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the roster.

Tonight it will be Jeremy Hellickson getting the start for the Phillies. The veteran right-hander is 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA. Last time out he got a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing three runs in five innings of work. In three starts against Washington this season, Hellickson is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA.

The Nationals will throw right-hander Stephen Strasburg. He is 9-0 with a 2.85 ERA. This will be his first start against the Phillies here in 2016, but in his career he has made 16 starts against them, going 7-2 with a 2.18 ERA.

Here is the lineup the Phillies will put up against Strasburg tonight:

1. Odubel Herrera CF
2. Cesar Hernandez 2B

4. Tommy Joseph 1B
5. Carlos Ruiz C
