Phillies Officially Announce The Return Of Charlie Manuel

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies confirmed reports from earlier this week on Friday, when they announced former manager Charlie Manuel will return to the organization as a senior adviser to Ruben Amaro Jr.

Manuel, 70, will work with minor league hitters, scout at the major and minor levels and serve as a consultant for the baseball operations staff.

"Charlie obviously brings a wealth of knowledge and is someone who had an historic impact on not just our organization, but on all Phillies fans," Amaro said in a statement. "We couldn't be happier to have him back in the fold with us and sharing his expertise and insight throughout the organization."

Manuel spent eight full seasons and part of a ninth as manager of the Phillies, compiling 780-636 record, one World Series championship, another World Series apperance, and finished second in Manager of The Year voting twice.
