Phillies Hold A Raffle To Support The Taney Dragons

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Phillies fans are doing their part to support the Taney Dragons Little League team.

Each home game the Phillies hold a 50/50 raffle with the proceeds going to a worthy cause. For Monday's game the beneficiary was Philadelphia's Taney Dragons, the team headed to the Little League World Series.

"Obviously it was a little bit of a last-minute thing beacuse we didn't know it was going to happen. But it was definitely a unanimous decision throughout," says Michele DeVicaris, the Phillies' manager of community and charity events. "It's a local team. We want to help our Philadelphia teams go as far as they can. So we just thought it was a natural fit for us to do that for them."

Fan Lisa Miller of Lock Haven bought a 50/50 ticket, and she planned to support Taney in person.

"Yes, and I'm going to go to the game on Friday and watch them in Williamsport," she said.

Taney's take from the 50/50 was $6727.50.
