Phillies Agree To Extension With Pitcher Jerome Williams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have signed right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams to a one-year, $2.5 million contract, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced Tuesday.

The team says the contract includes performance bonuses.

The 32-year-old went 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA in nine starts for the Phillies after being claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers on August 10.

Williams allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his nine starts as the Phillies went 6-3 in those games.

Williams is a veteran of 10 major league seasons and has pitched for seven different teams.
