Philadelphia's Mayor Rappels Down 31-Story Building

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The mayor of Philadelphia was among those who rappelled down the side of a 31-story building Friday afternoon to raise money for the Outward Bound program.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, an alumni of the Outward Bound program, brought attention to Friday's Outward Bound fundraiser by rappelling down the 31-story One Logan Square Building in Center City.

Kuznits: "What was your strategy? You came down pretty fast, it seems."
Nutter: "That was my strategy. To come down as fast as I could! But if you come down too fast, the equipment will lock up on you so you have to moderate yourself."

Katie Newsom Pastuszek, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, says the so-called Building Adventure event is their annual fundraiser this year, bringing in over $200,000.

"The monies that we raise goes into our Philadelphia local scholarship fund and for schools that come from Philadelphia public and charter schools. We know they don't have the resources to pay for these experiences, so we offset about 80% of the cost of their courses with funds that we raise," she says.
