Philadelphians Help AHA Reach Goal Of 100,000 Minutes Walked For National Walking Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Wednesday was National Walking Day, an effort by the American Heart Association to bring attention to the importance of walking.

"National Walking Day is the American Heart Association's initiative which gets people walking across America," said Lauren Rose with the American Heart Association.

Rose says they're trying to get folks to collectively log 100,000 minutes of walking.

"The American Heart Association office here in Philadelphia got out and we walked from Logan Circle to the Philadelphia Art Museum, and we're going to log our minutes with this hashtag which is #AHALaceUp."

They're touting walking because....

"It doesn't cost any money," Rose said, "and everyone has access."

And they hope this initiative will encourage folks to do more of it.

"A 20-minute walk around your building in Center City or wherever you work, it's a really easy thing to fit into your day and it goes a long way," Rose said. "It makes a difference in your life."
