Philadelphians Ready To Celebrate Day Of The Dead

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Day of the Dead is where people remember and pay respects to those in their lives who have died.

Philadelphians are getting ready to celebrate the Mexican holiday this weekend.

"We want to share our culture and our history with the Day of the Dead celebration that we do in Mexico," says Alicia Kerber -- head consul at the Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia.

She says they are sharing their special day with everyone this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penn Museum:

"We are going to have dancing. There will be a contest for costumes. We also are going to have food."

The center piece of the Day of the Dead festival is an alter hat's 15 feet high, has 300 paper machete flowers and is adorned by skeletons. Not to mention it's being dedicated to famed Mexican musician, the late Juan Gabriel.
