Philadelphia Zoo Hosts National Eating Disorder Association Walk

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One-thousand people are expected to take part in The National Eating Disorder Association's walk at the Philadelphia Zoo tomorrow morning.

The National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) has walks in cities across the country each year, raising funds and awareness for the battle against eating disorders. And now, Dr. Heather Trobert says it's finally here.

"Incredibly excited and thrilled to have this event for the very first time in our city."

Dr. Trobert is a Bryn Mawr-based psychotherapist who helped plan the walk at the Zoo.

"For people to know there's hope in recovery that they don't have to struggle and suffer."

In the United States, NEDA says 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives. It's why Dr. Trobert says walks like this are so critical.

"The more support we have the more we can provide education, treatment, advocacy for people out there who are struggling."

She says it's not too late to sign up; you can do so at the zoo before the walk starts.
