Philadelphia Youth Network Looking For Summer Jobs For Teens
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Youth Network hopes to find part time jobs for 10,000 teenagers again this summer.
The Network isn't picky about jobs for 14-to-21-year-olds in its WorkReady summer jobs program.
They can be the time-honored ice cream scooper sort, though with Bank of America as lead sponsor, there are sure to be some office slots.
And with the city providing nearly $4 million worth of jobs, there are lots of rec leader positions.
In fact, Mayor Jim Kenney says his own rec center summer job, indirectly, led him to the mayor's office because networking there led him to full-time public service:
"Summer jobs are important because it makes connections with people, with adults who can change the course of a child's life," said the Mayor.
Director Chekemma Fuller-Townsend says: "When we invest in the potential of our young people, there's no telling where our city can go."
She also says they have 4200 jobs lined up so far but need about 6000 more.
