Philadelphia Water Department Makes Splash At Pop-Up Beer Garden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Water Department is celebrating the success of the Green City, Clean Waters initiative -- a 25-year effort to reduce storm water runoff, which pollutes the city's creeks and rivers.
For three nights next week, it'll bring the party to the PHS pop-up garden at 15th and South.
"The program started five years ago, and we are using green infrastructure to reduce combined sewer overflows, and we are celebrating meeting our goals," explains Philadelphia Water Department Community Planner Hailey Stern.
She says the celebration kicks off Monday at 6 p.m. with a special Rain Check workshop:
"You can sign up and get a free rain barrel, or a cost-share for any other kind of green infrastructure on your property."
Next up is Brewsday Tuesday, a celebration of drinking water quality and beer, with a talk by Tim Patton from Saint Benjamin Brewing Company in Kensington. On tap is their Baxter's Best, a drinkable English-style ode to a water treatment plant.
"On Wednesday, we'll be talking about art and science of water," Stern says.
The garden opens each night at 5 p.m. with a full menu of food and drink, including Baxter's Best.
