Philadelphia police respond to unruly crowd of minors in Penn's Landing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It was chaos along Penn's Landing in Philadelphia on Monday night. There was a large police response after an unruly crowd took over the area of Penn's Landing on Memorial Day.
A few hundred people -- mostly teenagers -- started gathering around 8 p.m.
Police later said officers were "dispersing multiple crowds and fights" and there were gunshots and vandalized vehicles.
After 8 p.m. on the 100 block of South Front Street, police received a report of gunshots. Police did not find any victims at the scene but found shell casings in the street.
Also in the area, three vehicles were vandalized when juveniles jumped on the windshields, according to police.
Sources tell CBS News Philadelphia there were between 300 and 500 teens at the RiverRink at one point.
The crowd then moved to the area of Front and Walnut Streets.
Police did not report any arrests or injuries.
"The Philadelphia Police Department will continue to monitor the area for the foreseeable future and continue to work with our local partners and stakeholders to ensure that necessary resources are deployed to the area," a police spokesperson said in a statement. "Although large crowds are not expected tonight, the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the areas."
