Philadelphia Snares Championship Match of Gold Cup Soccer Tournament

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia will be the host city for the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Association Football) Gold Cup final this summer.

The best soccer teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean will compete in group stages, beginning July 7th, all leading up to the final Gold Cup match at Lincoln Financial Field.

Landing the championship game is another feather in the cap for Mayor Michael Nutter and his team, who have been on a roll lately.

"That's why these big events are so important," Nutter (third from left in photo) said today.  "Not only the substance of what the event is about, but also the national and international attention that is brought to our city.  We're a great international city, and we're trying to get more people to know that."

The third-place game will be played at PPL Park, in Chester, Pa.

The US National team is in Group 'A,' and will play the winner of the play-in game on July 7th in Dallas.
