16-year-old girl dies after shooting in North Philadelphia, police say

A 16-year-old girl died after she was shot in North Philadelphia Tuesday evening, police said.

The girl died at the hospital after being shot inside a home on the 2400 block of North Colorado Street just before 5:30 p.m., according to police.

The shooting may have been accidental, and it's unclear who fired the shot, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. Investigators are speaking to an 18-year-old man who they believe was in the room with the victim when the shooting happened.

Police recovered two guns and a loaded magazine from the scene, Small said.

Investigators believe multiple people, including some children, were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and many of them are cooperating with police and being interviewed by police, Small said. Police are also working to obtain footage from cameras in and around the house, he said.

Anyone who has guns should keep them locked inside of a safe and use trigger locks to prevent accidental shootings, especially in homes with children, Small said.
