Shooting in Philadelphia's Nicetown-Tioga section leaves man, woman dead, police say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man and woman were fatally shot inside a car in Philadelphia's Nicetown-Tioga section on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to the 3600 block of North 17th Street shortly after 3:45 p.m. for a person with a gun.

Police said they found two people inside a Kia Sportage unresponsive with gunshot wounds. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man and woman had multiple gunshot wounds to their head and torso. The woman was identified as 32-year-old Denver Newton, who lived in Southwest Philadelphia.

Officials identified the man on Friday as 53-year-old Lamont Wright from Los Angeles, California.

No arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered, authorities said. 

Police said the shooter got away in a dark-colored vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing with the Homicide Detectives Division.
