Philadelphia Police: 22-Year-Old Woman Killed After Being Shot While Answering Door In Cobbs Creek

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a 22-year-old woman was shot and killed when she answered the door of her West Philadelphia home. Arriving officers found the victim lying on the living room floor by the front door of a home on the 5800 block of Walton Avenue in the city's Cobbs Creek neighborhood around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Police say woman was shot once in the chest by an unknown man when she answered the door to the home.

Her 4-year-old son and other family members were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

"They state there was a knock on the door. The 22-year-old, who lives at the property, answered the door. When she opened the front door, someone shot her in the chest. Three shots were fired so she was shot from point-blank range," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

She was taken to Presbyterian Hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:37 p.m.

Police do not have a description of the suspect at this time but are hopeful surveillance video might have captured him to provide one.

"Fortunately, we found several properties on the block that do have private surveillance cameras, so homicide detectives are knocking on doors trying to see if these cameras have recorded anything," Small said.

No arrests have been made. If you have any information about the shooting, call police.

CBS3's Greg Argos and Trang Do contributed to this report.
