Philadelphia School District's School Selection Process To Open Wednesday For 2022-23 Academic Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia School District's school selection process for the 2022-23 school year opens Wednesday at 4 p.m. School selection allows students in grades K-12 the chance to attend a school outside of their neighborhood.

Officials hope changes this year will make the process more equitable for kids from marginalized neighborhoods.

"School selection represents one step in that larger process for us toward that level of systemic change," Sabriya Jubilee, Ph.D. Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, said, adding, "And we're using an opportunity to align ourselves with an equity focus to identify inequitable trends and patterns that we see within that process that inhibits student success and ultimately compromises their ability for long-term change."

The school selection process runs through Nov. 21.
