Police Officer Involved In Violent Crash In South Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Philadelphia Police officer is recovering from a violent overnight crash with a bread truck overnight.

"Bleeding from her mouth and she was complaining of pain on her left side of her body. That's from the impact of the accident."

Police say at around 2 in the morning the officer had her lights and sirens on going through the intersection of 11th and South when she collided with a truck.

It was an Aversa's bakery truck.

The 29-year-old driver was not hurt. The officer taken to Jefferson hospital in stable condition.

Police say real time crime cameras here will help them in the investigation.

Police say the officer was on her way to the 300 block of South Street to help officers who were on foot chasing an assault suspect, who they ended up catching.
