Philadelphia Police Officer Arrested For Theft, Leaving The Scene Of An Accident

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office says a Philadelphia Police officer has been charged with theft and leaving the scene of an accident following an incident earlier this summer.

On June 24, Officer Tayon Moore, 31, was driving his mother's Chrysler 300 while off-duty when he reportedly rear-ended a Drexel student at 34th and Chestnut Street.

Officer Moore eventually pulled over at 30th and Chestnut, and when the driver of the other vehicle began to call 911, Moore reportedly grabbed the driver's phone and threw it over the side of the bridge.

Moore then allegedly left the scene with exchanging any information.

Moore was eventually tracked down via a license plate number obtained by the other driver and observed damage to Moore's car, which was parked outside his home.

Police say Moore turned himself in on Sept. 16th and is facing charges of with Accidents Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property, Criminal Mischief, and Theft by Unlawful Taking for leaving the scene of an accident and damaging a cell phone belonging to the driver of the other car.

Moore is a seven-year veteran of the department and has been suspended with intent to dismiss.
