Philadelphia Police Investigating After Two Burned Bodies Found In Different Parts Of City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating the discovery of two bodies overnight, both were set on fire. One of the bodies was found at Frankford Avenue and Bellmore Street in Kensington. The other was on Wolford Drive in Strawberry Mansion.

"The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "I was told the flames were about eight to 10 feet above the vehicle."

A charred sidewalk is all that remains following a deadly overnight car fire. Police were called to Frankford Avenue and Bellmore Street in Kensington just after 1 a.m. Wednesday.

When they got there, they found a Cadillac sedan on fire. When the fire was extinguished, they noticed a person was dead in the driver's seat.

"The body is burnt beyond recognition. You can't tell if it's a male or female," Small said. "You cannot tell the age."

Police also say the license plate was taken off the vehicle, but the VIN number revealed the car was registered to an address two miles away.

Police have not disclosed that address, and the victim has not been identified.

Five hours and less than five miles away on the other side of the city, another body was found in Fairmount Park. Police were called to Woodford and Strawberry Mansion Drives in Fairmount Park at about 6 a.m. Wednesday. The caller thought it was a brush fire, but when police got there, they found a naked woman on fire. She has not been identified and no one has been arrested.

The fire marshal is investigating both of these incidents.

Philadelphia Police haven't said if they are linked.
