Man dies after SEPTA platform shooting at City Hall Station; alleged gunman turned himself in

A man died, and a suspect is in custody following a shooting at SEPTA's City Hall station during the busy Friday morning commute.

The shooting happened at around 7:30 a.m. after a cashier said they overheard a gunshot on the northbound platform at the City Hall station, according to SEPTA's director of media relations, Andrew Busch.

The shooting stemmed from a fight between the gunman and the victim, Philadelphia police said. The 27-year-old victim was shot in the torso and taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m., officials said.

Police identified the 27-year-old man as Sied Ali-Young.

The 27-year-old alleged gunman, who is legally permitted to own a firearm, has since turned himself and the gun used in to the police.

Police said the suspected gunman, Dawiz Idris Munson, was charged with murder and other offenses.

The investigation is ongoing with the Homicide Unit.
