Philadelphia Police Detective Charged With Assaulting Man

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a Philadelphia police detective has been suspended with intent to dismiss after being charged in an alleged assault.

Forty-three-year-old Adam O'Donnell, a detective with the special victims unit who was hired by the department in 2006, is charged with aggravated and simple assault, kidnapping, unlawful restraint, obstructing administration of law and official oppression.

The Philadelphia district attorney's office alleges that O'Donnell was escorting a man out of the special victims unit on Feb. 3 when he kicked the man in the knee, then dropped him off "on a random roadside" in the Hunting Park neighborhood. Officials said the man was later treated for a non-displaced femur fracture and "continues to walk with a limp."

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Five didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
