Police: Driver Involved In Fatal Hit-And-Run Of Boy Not Facing Charges At This Time

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A woman who Philadelphia police say was involved in the fatal hit-and-run of an 11-year-old boy will not be facing charges at this time.

Around 3 p.m. Friday, police say an 11-year-old boy was struck by a driver while riding his bike in the 1000 block of Shunk Street.

The boy was transported to Jefferson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say a woman drove herself to the Philadelphia Police 3rd District station to turn herself in but she was later released.

CBS3 has learned that the woman was not taken into custody. She was interviewed by officers and allowed to leave. No charges are being filed at this time.

Neighbors who know the boy's family and witnessed the aftermath of this hit-and-run are left wondering why.

"I mean, accidents happen, I don't know what would cause someone to run," said Joe Versace.

The names of the victim and the driver have not been released.
