Police release surveillance video of PPA officer shooting

Police searching for suspect accused in ambush-style shooting of PPA officer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are hoping you can identify the alleged gunman wanted in the shooting of a Philadelphia Parking Authority enforcement officer in Frankford.

Warning -- the surveillance video above is disturbing.

The video shows him walking up to the officer at Frankford Avenue near Orthodox Street last Friday. The officer is seen writing tickets at the time when the man approaches him then shoots him at point-blank range. Police say the 37-year-old officer was critically wounded.

The shooting was disturbing to people who work in the area. It happened during a busy time on the street filled with businesses.

"They should get him because that's wrong, he should fight with his hands or argue with the man or whatever, not shoot him," said Edgar Vazques, who works in the area. "What are you gonna shoot the man for, he's doing his job, you know? It's not right, you go to work and somebody shoots you because you're doing your job."

Detectives say they are working with the PPA and reviewing the names of those who recently received tickets in that area.

If you have any information about the incident, you're urged to contact police. A $10,000 reward from the city and a $20,000 reward from the PPA are available for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the suspect.
