Philadelphia Orchestra Presents Yannick And Rachmaninoff

By R.J. McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Orchestra presents Yannick and Rachmaninoff on October 1-4.

Jeremy Rothman, Vice President for artistic planning at the Philadelphia Orchestra, discussed the concert.

"Our opening weekend features a great pairing of our music director Yannick Nezet Seguin, with this incredible young piano talent Daniil Trifonov. He's 24-years-old, an incredible Russian pianist, really a master of Rachmaninoff's music. And he just recorded and released a CD of Rachmaninoff with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick conducting."

Rothman also talked about the relationship between Rachmaninoff and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

"Rachmaninoff loved the Philadelphia Orchestra, he said frequently and it is documented well. He wrote with the sound of the Philadelphia Orchestra in mind. This was his favorite orchestra to perform with, to conduct with, to record with."
