Grab Those Steins! Oktoberfest Celebrations Are Underway In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There's going to be lots of beer consumed these next few weeks. That's because Oktoberfest began on Saturday.

Festivals were happening all over Philadelphia, including on South Street where Brauhaus Schmitz tried to do their best Munich impersonation.

Michael Fricker belongs to a German American club in the area, and was at the festival, wearing his Trachten.

"On Saint Patrick's Day everybody is Irish," he says. "On Oktoberfest everybody is German."

Tents were set up as German food and beer were served, all while a live band performed oom-pah music.

"It's so much fun, tons of people dancing, music, beer, life is good," says Lynn Purvis.

She was wearing her Dirndl along with her daughter, Corrie.

"We were actually at the Oktoberfest in Munich last year so we're like 'we have to wear them again in Philly'," Corrie says.

In Corries' hand...a massive beer mug.

"Yea, second one so far," she says.

Like father, like daughter...

"It's called a Mas which is a liter of beer," says Bill Purvis. "I swear it's my only one."

But he wouldn't swear there wouldn't be more!
