Philadelphia Officers Hold Movie Night For Local Children
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- 12th District police officers have transformed their roll call room into a kid friendly entertainment center. Children ages five through 10-years-old got the VIP treatment, equipped with a red carpet entrance into a grand movie night experience.
"The movie that their seeing tonight is Minions. Everybody likes Minions," said Captain Deshawn Beaufort.
Friday marked the first time the 12th District has played host to a community movie night. It's all part of a program called Cops and Kids which is a monthly mentoring initiative meant to create bonds and trust between police and neighborhood children.
"It's just good will toward our community," said Beaufort.
Between the popcorn and McDonald's treats, the kids enjoyed the movie, learning valuable lessons under the guidance of those meant to protect and serve.
"Thank you to the officers for taking time out and money to do this for us," said 13-year-old Cindy Truong.
The Cops and Kids Program meets the last Wednesday of every month. This is the first movie night, but officers say they certainly hope it won't be the last.
