Philadelphia Native Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia native Harriet Powell was joined by her friends and family in Germantown Wednesday to celebrate her 100th birthday.

By the looks of it, 100 is the new 80. So what's the key to looking like a million bucks at the century mark?

"I ate right. I worked," said Powell. "I never was a drinker. I never drank liquor in my life. I led a clean life."

Flanked by her family and friends at the LIFE Center, Ms. Powell celebrated by doing what she loves most...dancing.

"Yes! I've been dancing just about all my life," she said. "I like to socialize."

Harriet graduated from William Penn High School and worked at Temple University for 32 years. Now, she spends time with family and her pals at the senior center several days a week.
