Philadelphia Museum Of Art To Showcase Work Of 80s Fashion Designer Patrick Kelly

By Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- "Exhuberant, happy, colorful."

That's how Curator Dilys Blum describes the work of 80s fashion designer Patrick Kelly. Now through November 30th, The Philadelphia Museum of Art will showcase some 80s Patrick Kelly designs in a retrospective called "Runway of Love."

Love was a strong theme in Kelly's work. Many of his pieces were adorned with hearts, bows and buttons.

"It really does make you smile and that's what he said he wanted to do was design clothes that made you smile."

Kelly's outgoing, infectious personality is captured on videos that play throughout the exhibit.

"The show is happy, but also poignant and sad because he died of AIDS within five years of really establishing himself on the Paris fashion scene."
