Phila. Group Dedicated To Fire Prevention Receives Praise
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The annual Citizens For Fire Prevention luncheon was held Friday and Philadelphia's Fire Commissioner recognized the group for their efforts to prevent fire deaths.
In 2015, the Philadelphia Fire Department had the lowest number of fire deaths in the city's history.
Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer told the group of business, civic and community leaders that their efforts are responsible for saving lives:
"You hear me say on a continual basis that fire is everyone's fight. Well that's a true statement. It sounds like a cliche, but it's a true statement. If everyone doesn't do their part, we don't reach that goal and what you actual did was help us reach that tipping point."
Bringing the number of fire deaths to twelve last year, down from 32 in 2014.
Sawyer also commended the group for getting 10,000 fire alarms in homes over the past year.
