Philadelphia Fire Department Looking To Recruit New Members

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Fire Department will soon begin accepting applications to fill a new training class. Commissioner Adam Thiel wants to spread the word.

Thiel is sounding the alarm, calling for brave men and women to join what he calls the "hottest team in town."

"We have to have a diverse and inclusive workforce," Thiel said. "As you can see from our firefighters here, we represent this city. We want to continue to represent this city and we want the best talent that this city has to offer."

It was about a year ago when Marco Barajas began his training. He had a message for those who are thinking about joining.

"Take that first step," he said. "The first step is applying. Give it a shot."

Anyone interested is encouraged to apply online beginning July 18.
