Philadelphia District Attorney's Office Joins Prosecutors Nationwide To Combat Gun Violence

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams has joined forces with 22 other district attorneys across the country to address gun violence.

The group is called Prosecutors Against Gun Violence and they've planned a summit in Atlanta next month.

"To take the best strategies from each jurisdiction and bring them back home and use, creative new efforts to combat gun violence," said Lauren Baraldi, Chief of the Philadelphia D.A.'s office Gun Violence Task Force.

She says the prosecutors have been swamped with violent crime involving guns and hope working together they'll find more effective tools against it.

"The gun homicide rate in the United States is at least 7 times higher than any other developed nation. This is a crisis," Baraldi said.

Baraldi says topics for the summit include mental health, domestic violence, gangs and illegal weapons trafficking.
