Philadelphia Distillery Moving To Fishtown

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia craft distillery best known for Bluecoat gin is getting new digs this fall. The move from the Northeast to Fishtown will bring a new way to experience the spirits.

Philadelphia Distilling will make its new home on Frankford Avenue.

"It's a great opportunity for us to get closer to our customers and give them a real destination in terms of learning about distilling, cocktails, and really the craft and artisan nature of what we do."

Company president Andrew Auwerda says there will be a tasting room, bar, restaurant, store and event space -- with Bluecoat and their other spirits front and center.

"We also make an exceptional vodka called Penn 1681, an absinthe called Vieux Carre, and a seasoned vodka called The Bay Vodka, and some spirits that'll only be available at our distillery."

He says you'll be able to watch the process from grain to glass.

Philadelphia Distilling's HQ will be across from SugarHouse Casino in Penn Treaty Village, the old Ajax Metal building that will also house the new concert venue, The Fillmore.

"We're hoping that as people visit the distillery and have a great time and learn a little bit more, they will become evangelists for our brands and spread the word to their friends and family in far-off places."
