There Are Signs Omicron Wave In Philadelphia Has Peaked But Daily Case Counts Are Still High

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – There are signs the Omicron wave in Philadelphia has peaked. However, the health commissioner says daily case counts are still averaging almost a thousand a day.

"We're still very far into the high transmission range, and if you remember back last summer, we went as low as below 50 cases a day. Close to a thousand is a lot," Dr. Cheryl Bettigole Philadelphia Health Commissioner said.

Meanwhile, the city says a review of state data revealed more Philadelphia children are vaccinated than previously known.

About 44% of Philadelphia children, ages 5 to 11,  have had at least one vaccine dose.
