Philadelphia Corp. For Aging Activates Heatline

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's under an excessive Heat Warning, and the Philadelphia Corporation for aging has activated its heatline.

PCA's Chris Gallagher says residents can call 215-765-9040 for themselves or for someone else, and staff and medical personnel can help determine if someone is experiencing heat stress.

"If they don't believe the person is going to be okay, they have the ability to send out a city health mobile team that also has a nurse, out to the person's location, take vital signs, look at the person's environment to make sure they are going to be okay."

Gallagher says the Heatline is designed to raise awareness about heat stress, which can include feeling nauseous, sweating heavily or not sweating at all. The number will be in service through at least Saturday.
