Philadelphia Community Takes Small Steps Toward Healthier Lifestyle During Independence Blue Cross Walk

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Wednesday marked the 8th annual Independence Blue Cross National Walk @ Lunch Day event to promote good, healthy habits.

There was sunshine and warm temperatures for the men and women walking three times around Rittenhouse Square. The event is designed to encourage people to get out and exercise. So will this kick start a walking campaign for Andrew?

"Let's hope so," he said. "I hope it kicks starts something. It should. Hopefully it will. I need to get out and walk more."

Lorraine walks everyday, so a mile was just a warm up.

"Working, walking," she said, "relieving stress, trying to lose weight."

And for Gloria, any step forward is a good one.

"I am trying to walk," she said. "I have in the past year been more focused on my well being and on weight loss, and being more active."

2,000 people pre-registered for this year's jaunt.
