Philadelphia Chosen To Host Major Medical Convention

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The National Medical Association (NMA) has chosen Philadelphia for its convention and scientific assembly next year.

The NMA is the nation's oldest and largest organization representing African-American physicians and health professionals. The convention and scientific assembly will be held July 27th – August 3rd in 2017.

The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau booked the event.

"I'm certainly fortunate to be the first African American female to hold this position," says Julie Coker Graham, new president and CEO of PHLCVB, "but it really speaks to the rich diverse population that we have here in this city. So I want to make sure that diversity inclusion is always at the forefront of the conversation as we court and attract different conventions to our city."

The NMA says Philadelphia's medical education programs and the vast cultural options impacted the selection.

Nearly 4,000 attendees are expected to generate more than $5-million for the city.
