Philadelphia Autism Advocate Pens New Book

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The annual Philadelphia Walk Now for Autism Speaks takes place this Saturday morning. One of those participating is a mom who published a book this week about her daughter with autism.

Sheena Edwards calls herself an "authorpreneur." Her second book about autism is called "Get to know Monroe."

"So that's a children's book co-written with me and my daughter, Monroe, she's five years old now," says Edwards, "and it's basically trying to get the conversation of autism and friendship started."

She says the book is a story about a day in the life of Monroe:

"So it really breaks down what her triggers are, why she's so quiet, why she may not say the things that you think she may say and why she may repeat the things that she says."

Edwards adds participating in events like the autism walk are important to her:

"Because autism is a lonely thing. It's very lonely for parents, it's lonely for me I know and it feels good when I see people with the 'Team Monroe' t-shirts on and just walking with us."
