Philadelphia Area Gas Prices Continue To Fall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Gas prices are still sliding down. AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the national average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.24 -- that's 52 cents less than it was a year ago.

Here in the five-county Philadelphia area, regular goes for $2.35 a gallon, 55 cents cheaper than last year.

South Jersey maintains its reputation for cheap fuel -- a gallon of regular gasoline costs a dollar-99 ($1.99).

AAA says while the cost of gas may continue to fall through the month, a number of issues, including geopolitical tensions overseas or hurricanes here at home, could give those prices a boost.
