Local Author Celebrating Paperbook Release Of Book That Inspired CBS Thriller

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you've seen the CBS television series, "Intelligence," you might want to check out the book that inspired it.  It is titled Phoenix Island and it just came out in paperback.

John Dixon, of West Chester, wrote the book, leaning on his experience as a competitive young boxer and his interest in trans-humanism.

He says the main character is shipped offshore to a teen boot camp, and some strange things are afoot, like inserting chips into humans.

"The idea of a chip in the human brain isn't new. It's been around science fiction for a long, long time. I think that right now, it's obviously way more timely than when it first appeared."

Dixon also says the book was influenced by a case several years ago where Pennsylvania judges were getting kickbacks for sending teens to offshore boot camps.
