Office Renaming Shows Philadelphia's Commitment To Adult Education
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney renewed his administration's commitment to giving adults in the city a chance to change their lives through education.
After a false start with a faulty pen, Mayor Kenney signed the executive order, which officially changed the name of the Mayor's Commission on Literacy to the Office of Adult Education.
He says the key here is that it gives residents a better idea of what the office is all about.
"And it highlights the importance of adult education, adult literacy, and job opportunities."
The other major part of this is that the office will now be under the wing of Managing Director Michael DiBerardinis, and that will help eliminate some of the siloing and bureaucratic challenges of the past.
In addition to improving reading and writing ability, Adult Education also helps with tech skills necessary to find employment.
