Phila. Students Take Part In After-School Scrabble Tourney at Seaport Museum

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Trophies were up for grabs today as more than 150 students gathered at the Independence Seaport Museum for an end-of-the-school-year Scrabble tournament.
Since October, students in school Scrabble clubs have been meeting weekly to face off against their classmates.
At today's event, they had the chance to play against kids from other schools, with some prizes on the line.
"This day is all about, sort of, a culmination," says organizer Earl Joseph. "(The students) worked all year, and now is the time to win the bigger trophies, to go away feeling very accomplished."
Prizes were being awarded for the highest word score and best use of a nautical term, among others.
The tournament is part of an initiative by the After School Activities Partnership.
The students said they were having a great time making new friends and learning new words.
"(You can) see what makes sense and what goes together," said one girl, "so in class you can know what words to use better for our essays and stuff."
"It's a good experience," agreed one boy.
