Phila. Streets Commissioner Arrested, Charged With Simple Assault

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Streets Commissioner Donald Carlton is free on bail after his arrest on assault charges.
Police say Carlton was involved in an argument that escalated into a fight with another man at a house party in Olney on December 6.
The 50-year-old man suffered injuries to his eye and ribs.
Carlton was charged Friday with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He's free on $2500 bail.
Lauren Hitt, spokeswoman for Mayor Jim Kenney, says Carlton has been placed on a leave of absence from his job as Streets Commissioner because of the charges.
Hitt says Deputy Commissioner Mike Carroll will serve as Acting Streets Commissioner.
Carlton faces a court hearing June 7.
