By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police have now identified the man who they say an officer had to shoot after he pointed a gun at cops who were chasing after him last week.

Plainclothes cops ran after 22-year-old Dayquane Thomas, according to police.

It was the area of 15th and Clearfield in North Philadelphia Thursday night, police say the officers saw Thomas and had info that he may have been a possible shooting suspect.

Authorities say the officers tried to stop Thomas but he ran off through a lot littered with trash.

The officers chased, police say Thomas pointed his gun at them and Officer Kollin Berg shot him in the back and legs.

Thomas was taken to Temple hospital and was listed in critical condition. Police say they recovered his gun and later found out he was wanted for three warrants, including one for contempt of court.

He's now facing aggravated and simple assault charges; gun offenses as well.

Police say Officer Berg, an eight-year veteran, is on desk duty as the shooting investigation continues.
