Pete Rose Remains Banned From Baseball

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pete Rose will remain banned from Major League Baseball.

"Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. today informed Mr. Rose, both verbally and in writing, that the application has been denied," a MLB statement said via CBSNews.com.

Rose, who is MLB's all-time hits leader, was banned from baseball in 1989 for betting on baseball. While Rose maintains that he never bet on the game while he was playing, an ESPN Outside The Lines report indicated and documented otherwise this summer.

In an interview last month on SportsRadio 94WIP, Rose said he feels he is baseball's "best ambassador."
