Person Drowns In Creek In Chester County

SADSBURY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- An investigation is underway after a person drowns while swimming in Sadsbury Township.

Police were called to a creek on Old Wilmington Road Tuesday morning by another swimmer who said the victim did not resurface after jumping off of a bridge.

The other swimmer tried to save the victim, but was pulled under.

Police say there was a strong undertow where the victim drowned.

Rescuers attempted to put poles in the water to recover the victim, but were unsuccessful.

Sgt. Richard Imhoff says, "Due to the strong undertow, fire and EMS personnel felt it would've been a safety issue for them to make an attempt to go into the water."

The victim has not been identified.
