Pennsylvania Mom To Stand Trial On Charges She Gave Baby Booze

ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania woman has been ordered to stand trial on charges she gave her 13-month-old daughter booze in her sippy cup, which resulted in the child's hospitalization.

Twenty-six-year-old Jessica Bachmaier, of Erie, has told police she believed a visiting friend might have provided the alcohol. But the Erie Times-News reports witnesses at a two-hour preliminary hearing contend she was the only one with the child when the alcohol would have been provided.

The girl was hospitalized with a blood-alcohol content of 0.289 percent May 14. That's more than three-and-a-half times more than the legal level of intoxication in Pennsylvania.

Bachmaier told police she gave the girl water and some baby formula, and that the girl seemed lethargic after hitting her head on a table. She continues to deny the charges.
