Pennsylvania lawmaker holds town hall concerning extension of Broad Street Line to Roosevelt Bouleva

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A local lawmaker wants to start a conversation about a Roosevelt Boulevard subway. State Rep. Jared Solomon is hosting a town hall meeting Saturday.

The idea of extending the Broad Street Line to Roosevelt Boulevard has been around for decades, but the project has never gotten off the ground.

Saturday, State Representative Jared Solomon held a town hall meeting. He wants city and state officials to take action on the Roosevelt Boulevard subway.

The proposal originated over 100 years ago.

Representative Solomon says the Northeast's population is growing. He says it's congesting the Boulevard and other means of public transportation.

But some who live there say this goes beyond an easier commute, like a better connection with the community.

Representative Solomon also says it's a good time to re-propose the subway.

He adds that infrastructure is at the forefront of a lot of people's minds as we come out of the pandemic.
