PennDOT Displays Artifacts Unearthed During I-95 Excavation In Fishtown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - PennDot is showing off artifacts that have been uncovered during excavation for I-95 improvements in Port Richmond and Fishtown. On Thursday night, you can see what's been unearthed! Some of the artifacts date back 5,000 years.
An impressive collection of artifacts including stone tools, cooking pots, and pipes used by Native Americans as far back as 3,500 B.C. will be displayed for free at First Presbyterian Church (418 East Girard Avenue) from 6pm to 8pm.
PennDot's Gene Blaum says other items dating from the 1700s through the early 1900s will also be on display.
"This area is right along the river, and the artifacts tell the story about the fishermen, the shipbuilders and the tradesmen," Blaum says previous "showings" of these items have been popular with residents who are interested in a glimpse into life long ago and items once buried in the shadow of speeding traffic along I-95.
